As a driver, one of the most uneasy feelings is when you can feel your car shudder when driving. Is it a nail in the tire, did a pothole break my car suspension, or do I have a busted driveshaft? There are a few parts that may be the reason your car is vibrating, and the potential damage can vary greatly. The most likely cause of the vibrating usually occurs near your vehicle’s rims and tires. They plant your vehicle to the road, and if anything is broken, you are going to feel it. More seriously, it might be something like a broken control arm or a broken transmission mount. These more major failures might leave you stranded on the side of the road.

If you got different wheels and tires recently, then the vehicle shuddering could be from the tires that we not balanced correctly. Tire balancing ensures the weight of the tire and wheel is. If you feel the tire shaking while you are driving, it may be a tire that is no longer balanced. If the tires are properly balanced, but the car is still shaking, make sure the tire pressure is correct, and be sure to check if the lugnuts are completely tightened and make sure the tire pressure is correct. If your tires are the root of the shake, you should get them checked out immediately.
If the car shakes when you brake, that’s a pretty strong indicator that you should have your brakes looked at. The most obvious reason for your steering wheel shake is warped brake rotors. When you push down on the brake pedal, brake pads squeeze the brake rotors to bring your car to a stop. A smooth surface will give you smooth braking. A warped surface will cause shakes when braking, sort of like how a brick road feels bumpier than an asphalt highway. Failing Engine Mounts – As the name indicates, these components help secure the engine to the car. If they get worn or broken, it can let your engine vibrate.
