If you notice your lights dimming while driving, it’s probably because of a failing battery. If the battery is normal, there are other trouble areas that could be responsible for the issue. Whether it’s the battery or something else, it’s imperative that you have the problem fixed ASAP. When your lights aren’t working correctly, you may become a hazard to other drivers.

If the car battery isn’t the cause of your flickering car lights, you might be dealing with a bad bulb or a bad fuse. Failing light bulbs are an easy fix and present an opportunity to upgrade to new LED bulbs.
If your vehicle has a bad fuse, you could be dealing with a larger issue than you had originally anticipated. In most cases, a fuse fails when there is excess electricity flowing through it. For example, if the anti-lock brakes are installed with a 10amp fuse, and the brake system receives more than 10amps of electricity, the fuse would fail. In this example, a failed fuse could cause your anti-lock brakes to fail. If there is a fuse that continues to fail, bring your vehicle in and we’ll thoroughly diagnose the bigger, potentially more serious issue.
Flickering lights could also be one of the signs that your alternator is dying. Consider this, you have battery power to start your car, but the alternator supplies the power that keeps your car running. If you own an older vehicle with halogen lights, you may notice them slowly get dimmer with a dying alternator. For newer cars equipped with LED or HID lighting, they may flicker or just stop functioning altogether.
A dying light switch, either the interior dimmer or the headlight switch, also needs to be checked out if you have flickering lights on the vehicle. In some uncommon situations, just replacing a worn switch might solve the flickering light issue, especially in old cars or vehicles with excessive wear. If your car doesn’t fall into either category, it could be symptoms of a bigger concern with the electrical system.
